What is SEO?  I know that it stands for Search Engine Optimization, but what is involved and what does it mean to you as a webmaster?

It means that the content on your website has been organized in such a way that google and other search engines pick it up faster. Certain rules apply to make it the most affective.
for example you want google to pick up your website about cat food. You'd write an article about cat food and mention the word "cat food" in strategic places throughout the article. (Cat food being your main keyword)
A. Main Keyword in the title of the article
B. Main keyword in the first paragraph: 1-2 times, No more than 3 times.
b. Main keyword in the last paragraph: 1 times. No more than 2 times.

This is particularly advantageous to websites that are trying to sell products, or just to get a high google page rank Smiley

SEO is an acronym for "search engine optimization" or "search engine optimizer." Deciding to hire an SEO is a big decision that can potentially improve your site and save time, but you can also risk damage to your site and reputation. Make sure to research the potential advantages as well as the damage that an irresponsible SEO can do to your site. Many SEOs and other agencies and consultants provide useful services for website owners, including:

    * Review of your site content or structure
    * Technical advice on website development: for example, hosting, redirects, error pages, use of JavaScript
    * Content development
    * Management of online business development campaigns
    * Keyword research
    * SEO training
    * Expertise in specific markets and geographies.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is often considered the more technical part of Web marketing. This is true because SEO does help in the promotion of sites and at the same time it requires some technical knowledge – at least familiarity with basic HTML. SEO is sometimes also called SEO copyrighting because most of the techniques that are used to promote sites in search engines deal with text. Generally, SEO can be defined as the activity of optimizing Web pages or whole sites in order to make them more search engine-friendly, thus getting higher positions in search results.
